The Spanish Bow by Andromeda Romano-Lax
I just finished reading The Spanish Bow by Andromeda Romano-Lax (title linked to the author's website) and I enjoyed it so much I felt I should blog about it. In this book we follow the life of a fictional cello player in Europe who lived during both World Wars and the Spanish Civil War in between. The historical details this author incorporates along with well developed characters make the story so real that I sometimes forgot I was reading a book of fiction.

I found this blog from your previous blog, The Life of a Spanish Teacher. (I was looking for Spanish teachers based on upcoming offer for them).
ReplyDeleteBut career changes also always interest me. Did you have any difficulty going from earning an income to paying for law school? What law school are or did you attend? (Though that question is probably answered in your blog, isn't it?)
And do you think you will focus on how the legal service serves (or falls short) for those with limited English skills? That would seem to be an area that you would have a knack for.
Gotta go. Almost midnight (EST) and still have to feed and walk our dogs. I'll bookmark your blog though.
I haven't actually started law school. With the economy especially for attorneys, now is not the time to go to law school. So I am currently working as a bilingual paralegal for a non-profit law firm working with victims of domestic violence. I have a fare number of Spanish speaking clients and lately quite a few who speak other languages. So I see up close all the barriers those with limited English skills have to our legal system. I've written a quite few posts on that.
